About Us

Welcome to the Virginia Horse Shows Association's Web Page. The VHSA was created by Horsemen in 1947 to establish an Association to "Improve The Breed" in the state and allow a level playing field for all exhibitors by setting standards and rules.  The VHSA is an association of show members and individual members cooperating to promote the sport, to improve the breeding of horses, as well as Honoring Tradition In Sport in the Commonwealth.  All breed groups, shows and horse interests are represented and membership is open to all individuals and to shows in Virginia and the bordering states of Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and North Carolina.

The VHSA is a member of the U.S. Equestrian Federation, the American Horse Council and the Virginia Horse Council. The VHSA offers numerous year-end awards to our members who show in rated horse show divisions (Regular Program). The recognized rated divisions are:

The VHSA/Hollins University Sandy Gerald Memorial Collegiate Riding Scholarship is a $2,000 Riding Scholarship which is donated from the VHSA and Hollins University in honor of Sandy's memory and is awarded to a VHSA Collegiate Rider who is competing in an Adult or Children's Division of their choosing, on a School or a Leased Horse.

To apply for either of these Scholarships, members or friends/family of VHSA members need to write a letter to the VHSA explaining why they feel themselves or someone they know is worthy of one of these Scholarships. The Scholarships are awarded each year at the VHSA Annual Convention which is held the first weekend of December.  Please mail or e-mail letters to the VHSA Office.
