The VHSA Annual Meeting and Convention
The 2017 VHSA Annual Meeting and Convention will be held the weekend of December 1, 2017, at the beautiful Homestead in Hot Springs, Virginia. The weekend has many different activities for all. We are holding two different Clinics this year. Both Clinics will be held on Saturday afternoon, December 2nd.
The first Clinic is the Horsemanship Clinic. This will be held at 1:00 p.m. till 2:30 p.m. This Clinic will offer our Members an inside look at basic horsemanship. This clinic is is open to all, at no charge. (Time has been changed so those who are interested in both of our clinics will be able to attend them on Saturday, December 2nd)
The second Clinic is the Horse Hobby or Equine Business Clinic. The authors of the book Horse Hobby or Equine Businness, Ms. Cindy McCarthy and Ms. Michael Farnam will be our Clinicians for this clinic. The Clinic will be based on the book which is a business book for the horse industry. The target market includes trainers, horse and horse farm owners, CPAs and tax attorneys. It provides the plans, practices and processes needed to establish intent for profit as defined by the IRS. This very informative Clinic is open to all free of charge and will begin at 2:30 p.m. and ends at 4:00 p.m. with a book signing immediately after the conclusion of this Clinic. (Time has been changed so those who are interested in both of our clinics will be able to attend them on Saturday, December 2nd)
There will be a Junior Members Skating Party for all of the juniors in attendance and is free. There will also be complimentary hot chocolate and cookies available, rink side. The Skating Rink has been moved to the Mountain Lodge this year.
Saturday evening will conclude with the Presidents Reception which is sponsored by Virginia Trainers in appreciation of al of their students and our Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. We are pleased to induct the following well deserved individuals and animals who will be added to a very prestigious list of Hall of Fame Inductees:

Ms. Sarah Marshall Irvine
Spanish Mint, owned by Mrs. Rucker
Pandora, owned by Ms. Meg Malone Rhodes
During the entire weekend we will be holding a Silent Auction in the Georgian Room where the VHSA Registration Desk will be (off of the Lobby Bar/Great Hall). It is the perfect opportunity to bid on some fantastic items just in time for Christmas. The Silent Auction will conclude at the beginning of the Awards Luncheon on Sunday.
The Awards Luncheon is held on Sunday, December 3rd in the Commonwealth Room. We hope that you will be able to join us to help celebrate the 2017 winners. Every attendee will be handed a Red Ticket as they enter the Commonwealth Room. Please make sure that you hold onto your Red Ticket for the Raffle. Tickets will be drawn throughout the luncheon and there is a chance you could be a winner! Due to the very quick turn around time from the last horse shows being entered and the date of the Convention, we do not contact the winners, we will have the points updated on our website, so please make sure that you keep checking to see how you placed for year-end.
If you are unable to attend the Awards Luncheon and cannot pick up your award, the Championship and Reserve Ribbons will automatically be mailed to the winner. However, for 3rd through 6th place, the ribbons will not be mailed until after the Convention and only if the VHSA receives a written request (e-mail is fine) asking that your ribbon be mailed to you. You must include the name of the horse/pony, owner, division and placement and where you would like the ribbon mailed to. These ribbons will not automatically be mailed out. We must have a written request.
